Art is more than the creation of work and does not happen in a vacuum. Art History is an entity that informs, defines, and confronts Art. The public activates and completes the process of Art through interaction, critique, purchase, and interpretation.
In REQUIEM 07 the studio takes the guise of a fighting arena Cage Match: Art making can be a mentally and physically abusive process both during and after the act of creation. I will be inviting the viewer into the cage with me to battle Art History in an attempt to create a new form of Art. As artists we are always learning from and fighting Art History in an attempt to create new and innovative work; furthermore, to create a new form of Art one must destroy their Art antecedents. As an interactive happening, I am depicting the collective nature of how artists shape Art History.
