Ugly Art
acrylic monoprint & hand crafted frame
19" x 28" x 1 5/8"
aluminum, paduck & wenge woods

I am working on setting up a dynamic contradiction between the Art and the presentation. In this case, the Art is labeled"ugly!" With little else to look at, the frame's craftsmanship draws your attention setting up the contradiction. The presentation becomes the Art and the Art has already been labeled"Ugly!" Craftsmanship is on trial in this Art piece. Some viewers may feel as if the Art was talking to them.....calling them ugly!

Elementary Pencil
16" x 2"
cast wood putty, pencil shavings, pencils, and paint

While I was working as a Elementary Art teacher, I began collecting pencil shavings and worn out pencils from my classes. I later made a pencil mold from an original Jumbo Pencil from the Pencil Pusher Pushing Pencils installation. I then created a one of a kind cut away section and cast a new pencil. The piece was made for a Self Portrait Exhibition. The idea was that I had propagated my own art through the students and cast them in my likeness. By collecting the discarded remains from my art lessons and their process, I was able to reclaim my Art through them.
